Single Sign-On

Many of our customers explore Single sign-on (SSO) to improve productivity, IT monitoring and management and security control.

SSO is an authentication process that allows a user to access multiple applications with one set of login credentials. SSO is a common procedure in enterprises, where a user accesses multiple resources connected to a local area network (LAN). This can include corporate data, corporate applications, line of business applications and third party applications such as HR Systems, ERP and CRM solutions.

What's involved?

With one security token (a username and password pair), you can enable and disable user access to multiple systems, platforms, apps and other resources. You also reduce the risk of lost, forgotten or weak passwords.

A well thought out and well-executed SSO strategy can eliminate password-related reset costs and downtime, mitigate the risk of insider threats, improve user experience and authentication processes, and put the organisation firmly in control of user access.

Microsoft Active Directory SSO is commonly implemented through the below steps:

  • Necessary applications and policies in the SSO solution are defined.
  • Determined list of who needs access to which applications.
  • Application access granted to groupings of users, rather than individuals.
  • Group Management processes determine access to applications going forwards.

What are the benefits?

This service would be ideal for your organisation if you are looking to resolve the below challenges:

  • Improving your user experience by stopping the sprawl of different usernames and passwords with the increase in SaaS cloud-based applications.
  • Recently experienced a security breach due to compromised credentials.
  • An increasing challenge when creating/managing user accounts, ensuring accurate entitlement and suitable off boarding when an employee leaves a company.
  • Shift in working culture resulting in Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), Always On, Work from anywhere and thus employees working from devices that IT doesn’t control and on networks IT doesn’t have any visibility of.
  • Scalability – automating credential management reduces the amount of manual management from IT to manage human error. This in turn frees up IT to focus on more important tasks.
  • Improved Security – fewer passwords results in fewer credentials at risk. We would recommend multi-factor authentication (MFA) to also be applied to ensure password backup.
  • Improved productivity – due to less time required to reset passwords and self-service password resets.
  • Simplified user on-boarding – access to new applications and workflow approval is simplified.
  • Greater control – IT can decide who has access to certain applications, when and where.
