Prerequisites
Please ensure the server you will install the Data Gateway on has the following installed:
- .NET Framework 4.8 – https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2101321
- Windows Server 2012 R2 or later with all latest Windows Updates
Download the Data Gateway
Open a web browser and navigate to https://app.powerbi.com and sign in with your work credentials.
From the top right, click the download icon and select Data Gateway

Tip: If the download icon isn’t visible, you may have to click the ellipsis instead, then Download, then Data Gateway.

On the download page that opens, click the link to download the standard mode gateway

Copy the downloaded GatewayInstall.exe to either the Arcserve server itself or another server that you will use as the data gateway server (but this must have network access to the Arcserve server where SQL is installed).
Install the Data Gateway
Right click the GatewayInstall.exe and choose Run As administrator
Tick the box to accept the terms of use then click Install

Once installation has completed, you will be prompted to enter an e-mail address that will be shown in Power BI as the contact address for information about the Data Gateway then click Sign in.

If prompted, enter your work credentials and sign in with any prompted MFA.
Choose the option to Register a new gateway on this computer and click Next

Enter an identifiable name for the Data Gateway (this will be shown in the Power BI Portal) and specify a recovery key, then click Configure.

Review the summary screen and click close.
Open a web browser and navigate to https://app.powerbi.com
Click Settings (Cog symbol) and then Manage gateways

Select the newly registered gateway, tick the option to Allow user’s cloud data sources to refresh though this gateway cluster, then click Apply.
