Career Case Studies

See how PowerON team member careers have progressed during their time working with us.

Lucy joined PowerON as a Learning & Business Operations Coordinator, and Sophie’s role was split between Engagement (project) Management and coordinating Microsoft partner programme requirements. Lucy expressed an interest in project management, and Sophie demonstrated an aptitude and interest in training, so we were able to suggest and support a role swap. Lucy is now an Engagement Manager, and has completed her Prince II Practitioner qualification. Sophie is our Learning & Business Operations Coordinator, thriving as PowerON’s go-to expert on all things skills and training. Whilst unconventional, a role swap has given Lucy and Sophie new roles and directions where they can both excel and progress!

Ricky joined PowerON as a Delivery Engineer, with a development plan to progress to Delivery Consultant, which he achieved within 6 months. Through his own personal drive, and supported by his line manager, Ricky then worked to achieve promotion to Senior Consultant. For his next challenge, Ricky developed his commercial skills through a combination of e-learning and 1-to-1 coaching to move into a pre-sales role as a Solution Consultant, where he works with his Sales colleagues and our clients to explore client needs and help them make the best decisions for their business.

Heinrich joined PowerON as a Solution Consultant, with a previous background in technical delivery. He expanded his role to become a Business Consultant, taking on responsibility for a sales target whilst maintaining his technical expertise. After 12 months, he returned to the pre-sales world as Pre-Sales Lead, making an immediate impact with his focus on consistency, structure and people management. He then progressed further to become Head of EUC and Pre-Sales, retaining his leadership of Pre-Sales, and taking on leadership of the EUC workstream.

Leo joined PowerON as a Delivery Consultant, specialising in VMM, DPM and Azure, and pivoted to focus on security, identity and access as the market changed. Consistently demonstrating his ability to problem-solve and innovate, Leo progressed to Senior Consultant and subsequently to lead his workstream as Head of Identity and Access. The innovation continues, with Leo introducing AOVPN DPC to the market as a brand new product, and always seeking to automate and introduce efficiency to his workstream’s service offerings.

Rachel joined PowerON as Finance Officer, applying her twin passions for Excel and accuracy to develop and improve the processes that were already in place. Over the next two years, she was steadily promoted to Financial Controller, Head of Finance and then to Chief Finance Officer, reflecting her commitment, quality of work, and ability to contribute to strategic discussions, demonstrating how potential can be recognised and rewarded. Rachel also volunteered to be PowerON’s first Mental Health First Aider.

David joined PowerON as a Senior Support Engineer, working on escalated tickets to support Managed Service customers, as part of our Service Operations team. He quickly established himself as an essential member of the team, due to his technical knowledge and his ability to take ownership of a problem until he’d solved it. When an opportunity arose for a promotion within the team, David applied and was appointed to the Internal Delivery Consultant role, where he acts as the Technical Account Manager, owning the technical aspects of relationships with Managed Service Customers. He also works with his IDC colleagues to jointly own and drive the technical roadmap for the SmarT service offerings, and supports capacity in the professional services team with the delivery of other projects.

Joel and Nathan joined PowerON as Service Support Apprentices, working as first line support engineers, and spending 20% of their time completing a level 3 Desktop Support Technician apprenticeship. Both completed the apprenticeship successfully and were offered permanent roles as Support Engineers. In this role, they developed their skills and experience to work on more complex support tickets and customer work.

They both continue to demonstrate ambition to progress, and have now been promoted to Delivery Engineer, with Joel specialising in Backup & Infrastructure, and Nathan maintaining his EUC specialism.
